Solaris

Hi experts,

I am using Solaris 9. I use to login to solaris through Putty/TeraTerm Terminal software from my PC. After login if i keep myself idle in that window i found after couple of minutes Terminal vanish automatically.

Even if i run some program in background/foreground and wait for finishing the process, after couple of minutes same things happend.

And worst thing is that when Terminal Close background/foreground program also closed.:confused

Please advise..

Go in to PuTTY Configuration and under Connection Category change "Sending of null packets to keep session active" to something other than 0.....now save this to the server config you have already saved otherwise the keepalive won't apply...

I did NOT "Sending of null packets to keep session active" Option in My putty under Connection Category. In Connection Category i have Data, Proxy, Telnet, Rlogin.

It may be caused by TMOUT shell variable. Unset it.
Regarding to those background processes, that's normal. When the shell exits it sends HUP signal to all its child processes. If you want to avoid such behaviour, use "nohup".

The "Sending of null packets to keep session active" option is listed in the connection category. Click the connection category and and look for options controlling the connection on the right hand side of the configuration window. Data, proxy, telnet, rlogin are sub categories of connection category.

You may also increase the timeout value in the /etc/sshd/sshd_config file if you want.

Many Thanks. I was missed to see the option of "Sending of null...." I set the value of 'second between keepalives' 1. And telnet sessions is not auto closing.

I do not change anything in /etc/ssh/sshd_config.

Though my 'auto closing telnet session' solved but below is my interest to know it.

Where i can found the TMOUT for unset.??

And how to use the "nohup" ??
