Solaris 10 x86 Installation Will Not Boot From CD Disks

Problem: Am trying to install Solaris 10 x86 on a desktop PC (PC details unspecified) from downloaded iso images (5 in all) on 5 CD disks. These were downloaded from the Sun website and unzipped. I install Disk 1of 5 into the CD drive and then restart the machine, thinkng that it will launch into the boot/installation process. The only thing that happens is that I get a screen message which tells me to "retry". Obviously, the machine never even boots up, much less allows me to install x86 Solaris 10
This is the very first time I have ever attempted to install Solaris 10 x86 onto a desktp PC and undoubtedly I have overlooked something. I am currently searching Google and every place else I can find in order to try to find out what I need to do to make this machine boot. Your replies/help is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely

Rob

It is probably that Disk 1 (and probably all of the others) are in the wrong format i.e. the ISO image is burned wrong. Disk 1 needs to be a bootable CDROM.

The ISO files should be burned as raw images. You should be able to view the contents of those CDs in any machine.

If the CD looks good and it won't boot, try booting it in another machine but don't actually do the install.

Next step would be the hardware compatibility list.

What OS are you burning on ? If it's WinXP you can't burn ISO images by default. Check out ISORecorder at

ISO Recorder v 2

otherwise you won't have a bootable ROM, just a copy of the ISO image. Took be half a pack of CD-R's to figure that one out.

Are you sure that the 5 images are INDIVIDUAL CD iso images or should they be combined into a SINGLE DVD iso disk?

see: Solaris Operating System - Download & Burning Instructions

Old Sun Hw does not have DVD ROM so it is mandatory to use CD-ROMs consequently.

If you download CD-ROMs from Sun site it must not be a problem ? Maybe you'd better to try from beginning..just watch out comments by Sun how to prepare ISO s and how to install...
