Cannot "su" to root

Cannot "su" to root
Greetings,

I am using Solaris 10 (sparc)

When I try to su to root (giving the correct password), I get the message:
su: sorry

What is preventing me from doing an su to root? I checked the /etc/group
file and I am a member of the sysadmin group (gid=14). All replies are solicited and appreciated! Thanks

what do the logs say?

can you log on at the console as root?

has someone else changed the password?

does sudo work?

Since, I cannot su to root, I cannot view the /var/adm/sulog. I confirmed (asked the sysadmin) that the password has not been changed. Sudo is not enabled on this machine. Thanks!

What does the sysadmin have to say on the matter?

u dont have sudo acces/right --- not in the sudoers file

Ok guys...this just got "weirder". I logged into the machine in question as my normal userid. I took a shot in the dark and was able to su to root! I cannot explain why all of a sudden I can su to root when I previously could
not. I did check the /var/adm/sulog and did verify my previous unsuccessful attempts to "su to root" several days ago. And no, I most assuredly did not "fat-finger" the keyboard or have the caps lock set to ON during my previous unsuccessful attempts. Do you all know of any logs that I might check which might shed some light on this mystery?
