Solaris 10 freezes up while logging in.....!!!!

Hi all,

I have installed Solaris along with Xp ....The installation was successful... I get the Grub menu displaying Solaris along with Win Xp....After i select Solaris the following happens,

"Failed to initialize inband hotplug controller"

The above message repeats three times & i get the "hostname console login"

After i login when the system tries to boot up the GUI screen the following happens,

There is a black screen with pink stripes on top....After this nothing happens.

The system just freezes up.

Is there any solution for this without reformatting & reinstalling the OS ???

Plz Help.Smilie

Did you try to kill the X and then investigate its log?

How about diving into the BIOS settings,

you could

(a) write down all the current settings

(b) set defaults

(c) save

(d) reboot

then if that doesn't work start disabling things like "plug & play" etc until the machine starts up, then if things aren't detected or working back track on things you disabled.

I had to remove an ISA sound board for Solaris 10 to work on my PC.
