OK, got something going. Tried putting 1 DIMM for each processor, it didn't like it said "pairs incomplete". Then I put both DIMM strips I have into CPU1 instead of CPU0 as it arrived. It did long, and rather excruciating tests and arrived here, if anybody is interested to peruse:

Code:

I will see if I can install Solaris 10 even though we are in service mode, per the front switch I turned rightmost.

OK, moving along nice and easy. Finally seen some Unix file directory, even if in memory only. Smilie

This is what I got for "boot cdrom -s"

Code:

One Sparc Solaris Box Coming Up!

Dear Hicks,

Indeed it is delivered on that promising sparkle now... Smilie Big big thanks to you my old friend. Now I feel ready to tackle any old Sun hardware with more ease.

Help with Reviving a NETRA240 Pls?-wp_20181203_014jpg

Speaking of being held together by sticky tape, I am 53 with a open bypass surgery myself. Still get excited like a boy about adventures in silicon valley though. That High Noon book also delivered the goods. Poor old lady Karen Southwick did solid research and analysis. You can see Sun's demise even when she published in 2000. McNealy could have sold the company to some cool hardware guys like 1-Cisco or 2-HP we could still get some exciting designs. They were very approachable people. Sun Turkey country manager was humble enough to visit me at my home office in Istanbul. A struggling web developer at the time. Nobody else like that would let you dream of that. Seen McNealy circa 1999 in person. He was surprisingly short, very tired, and nervous like a common Turk. Smilie Obviously very down to earth and hard working. Wish they did something like Acorn did with ARM design to popularize SPARC further into tablets and phones, kick microsoft's ass finally.

Yes, that is progress indeed. Well done!

I was lucky. At age 62 my treatment was a single coronary stent and selling my group of companies to reduce the stress. I'm now 68.

I must also add that there aren't many forum members who describe their problem as well as you did. It makes for much easier resolution when we're not left guessing. You get accurate answers to accurate questions.

Thanks for all your encouragement and direction. I had never laid hands on an actual Sun machine before. We just had Solaris x86 and couple of books. That visit was to encourage us to develop something with Java or Solaris actually. I did the very first Oracle e-trade web application in Turkey at the time, and some factory-dealer web order system using Perl and PgSQL. Thanks to freemasons they gave the first big customer business we developed to their own cohorts, naturally. That business was not growing fast enough, so I sold out and made a big organic farm in my beautiful home town. Never felt sorry for that. IT industry is a sales-only, piss-dirty game in backwater countries like this. No real need for engineers like us. Smilie

Yes you were indeed lucky if you got away with only 1 stent and a serious diet. You must have caught it before any cardiac arrest. Stents are not a permanent solution, but after 60, the heart develops new arteries that supplant blocked ones.

It is indeed very very good for our health both that we still play with something like computers. Smilie But 50 years in the industry is really incredible, my hat is off to you. Hope you got real fair value for your companies.
