Find memory usage for a process

I have multiple oracle databases on one server. All the database are running from the same user i.e. oraent.
The process for each database can be distinguished by the ps -ef command

Eg :

The Output :

I need to find the total memory usage for each database at a given time.

I tried prstat, but there was no column which could differentiate the process per database. Smilie Smilie

Hope i was able to convey my requirement.

Any help will be welcome.

In prstat the SIZE and RSS columns tell you how much memory a process consumes.
SIZE is wrongly described as SWAP in the man pages, but it's about the same: virtual memory including reservations.

         The sum of swap reservations of the associated processes
         for  each  user,  project,  task,  or  zone. This counts
         shared memory only once for each user, project, task, or
         zone.   Swap  is reserved when anonymous memory is allo-
         cated or files are mapped private. The value of swap  is
         expressed  in kilobytes (K), megabytes (M), or gigabytes
         (G).

     RSS

         The resident set size of the process (RSS), in kilobytes
         (K),  megabytes  (M), or gigabytes (G). The RSS value is
         an estimate provided by proc(4) that might underestimate
         the actual resident set size. Users who want to get more
         accurate usage information for capacity planning  should
         use the -x option to pmap(1) instead.

"resident" means: resident in RAM.

The above two columns will definitely give the said information..
But i want this information for many processess.
I have in total 13000 processess.
One of the database having 8000 processess
Second having 4500 processess
And third having 500 processess.

I need the total memory used for each databases..

i.e. total of 8000 processess for database 1.
Total of 4500 processess for database 2.
Total of 500 processess for database 3.

You can use ps with the o option to get VSZ (~SIZE) and RSS per process.
Then pipe it to awk for summing up each in an array that is indexed by arg1.
At the END print the indices and their rss and vsz sums.

It' s easy to extend. For example, add the number of processes

will give the usage for the user oraent.
In my case all the database are runing from the same user i.e. oraent.

ps -u oraent

will not help in my case.
i will need to perform

What does
Code:
ps -u oraent -o rss= -o vsz= -o args=

give you?
It should list all processes with all databases.
What happens if you pipe that to the awk?
It should give a sum for each database.
