440 MHz problems in UltraSparc 5 Computer

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 440 MHz processor module for my Sun Ultrasparc 5 computer. I installed the module, updated the boot prom to the most recent version and when the machine starts up the initial white screen shows I have a 333 MHz processor installed !

I checked the details of the processor chip and it is definitely a 440 Mhz chip. Has anybody else had similar experiences or does anybody have any idea why the computer thinks a 333 MHz processor has been installed?

Cheers

ps. Has anyone successfully installed a 400 MHz cpu module in an Ultra 5 computer. What OBP / POST versions did you have installed?

Note that the 440 MHz processor is not shown as supported on Ultra 5

270, 333, 360, or 400-MHz UltraSPARC[tm]-IIi

Hi

Thanks for the reply. Its true the Ultra 5 does not 'officially support' the 440 MHZ CPU however the Ultra 10 does and the motherboard is exactly the same. It should still work shouldn't it?

ps. Just searched the internet and came across the following line "also hidden +cpu-speed". Has anyone used this to increase the CPU speed?
