Hi,
When I do
Code:
probe-all, probe-scsi-all

I the system freezes after/at probing the usb keyboard.
It will not recognize the USB cdrom that I have plugged in.
Any suggestions?

I realize that I am coming into this thread late, but..............

Do we know what hardware (model) this is? It's a SPARC of some sort from the posts already made.

Try removing all power and then power up from cold, then

Code:

probe-scsi-all

This command can easily freeze a system if used without a cold power up.

Does that still freeze? If not, what does it say?

Absolutely sure that there's no cdrom device??
Is there a "hole" in the front where it used to be?

Hi hicksd8, it's never too late!
I did the cold start up and the
Code:
probe-scsi-all

did not return any thing it just moved to the next ok> prompt.
Code:
probe-all

however still freezes the system.
Code:
probing /pci@1,1 Device 7 isa dma floppy parallel power serial serial
8042 kb_ps2 kdmouse
probing /pci@1,1 Device c network firewire usb
probing /pci@1,1 Device 3 pmu i2c winbond dimm dimm motherboard-fru
pmc-fru ppm beep watchdog
probing /pci@1,1 Device d ide disk cdrom
probing /pci@1,1 Device 5 pci108e,110 network firewire usb keuboard

And the system freezes there.
There is no slot for the cdrom, I am not sure why it keeps coming up.
I did
Code:
reset-all

still not change.
Any suggestions? Thank you.

What 'model' machine is this???????

Assuming that you know that you have at least one scsi (or FC) hard disk in there then

Code:

probe-scsi-all

must come out with something!!! Unless there's something weird about this particular model. Repeat, what model is it? Look for labels on the front/back of the chassis.

Assuming you know that there are scsi disks in there, my next move would be to power down and reseat scsi cables between the disk controller and the drive housing within the chassis. Then try this command again.

If there's only one hard disk in there, perhaps it has failed!

Also, pull out any hot-plug drives and put them back in again to reseat them. Make sure connections are good.

Sorry I overlooked that question.
This machine is a Netra AX1105-500 Ultra Sparc-IIe
The way the hard drive is connected to the system is via a scsi cable which is attached to the 2.5" HDD adapter which is connected to the hard drive.
The scsi cable is glued to the system board and the 2.5" HD adapter to the scsi cable...

It seems that the Netra AX1105-500 is a strange animal as far as SPARC boxes go.

The docs say that a EIDE disk is the default hard disk supplied.
It does expect a IDE CDROM attached as detailed.

So 'probe-scsi-all' doesn't figure at all on this box.

Have you seen the attached doc???

As a consequence of the contents of this document I reckon we need to rewind this discussion and start again based on the new questions I think you'll have.

Have you been the admin of this machine in the past? Or have you inherited it? Do you know the history at all?

I hope that helps.
