Gnome_problem

Hi,
I've just installed SOl 9/04 and try
to use Gnome desktop.

As root no problem
As simple user after logging I have
a black screen then return to dtlogin

I'v found these errors in .dt/startlog

/usr/dt/bin/Xsession[749]: 1431 Hangup
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

Any Ideas ?
PS all the startlog text is the same when logging under CDE untill line :
/usr/dt/bin/Xsession[749]: 1431 Hangup

looks like that user is not allowed to login.
check out your /etc/passwd file the last entry at the end of each line, look at the one for your user, then at the end of that itll probably say /bin/true
change that to something like /bin/bash or whatever shell you want to start in.

try that and see what happens. i am not sure if users with /bin/true as a login shell can login to X. if they are then you have some other problem since you are trying to start an x session.

Hi,

The currios fact is that logging with CDE is Ok
for everybody thus it's not a logging problem.

It 's just when the Gnome session is started and only for regular users
Thansk anyway

Hi,

Looking for a solution I've created a local user
NO PROBLEM. SO it's related to network password. I'm running NIS with a NIS master running SOl 8
