Solaris 10 - HOSTID changed ???

Hello everybody,

please , I need an urgent help.
I reinstalled our server Sun X4150. What was changed:

our two disks were changed to raid1 and I installed a never version of Solaris 10 (previously the version from 12/2009 was used, now a version from 03/2010).

what I'm surprised, the hostID changed. now please explain me what should I do when we have a signalware communication cards licenses generated on hostID which now doesn't work. I repeat again, HW didn't change.

thanks a lot for any help

bR

Are you sure you are talking about Solaris 10 versions ?
Latest Solaris 10 release is update 8 (10/2009). There is no 03/2010 release.

What's the output of uname -a?

You could contact your software company and have them update the license with the new hostid or if you have backups of the old server, this may work:

for X86 solaris - Description:

If an installation fails or is aborted, subsequent installations are
likely to get a hardware serial number (hostid) of zero. This makes
the machine unable to use many software licensing methods.

Work Around:

Workaround: Delete the contents of /kernel/misc before re-installing
(so your workaround may be to find the old /kernel/misc info and restore it...or just parts of it)

in x86 machines the hostid is generated randomly during installation. you need a tool from sun to change the id to a value you need... open a call and get the tool you need to do this.
