awk
I have a file (test.txt) that has content of:

Code:
a
 b
 c
 d

when I awk -v ORS="," '1' test.ext on AIX6.3
gave me this:
Code:
a,b,c,d,

that's exactly what I want.

I ran same syntax on Solaris 10, error
Code:
awk: syntax error near line 1
awk: bailing out near line 1

so, awk in AIX and Solaris are not the same.

would someone please show on solaris 10 to get my file as a,b,c,d,

use nawk on Solaris

As has been stated many, many times before in this forum: when running modern awk scripts on Solaris/SunOS systems, change awk to /usr/xpg4/bin/awk or nawk. /usr/bin/awk on Solaris systems is intended to run awk scripts that were written for the original (1977) definition of the awk programming language.

Modern scripts (including the script shown in post #1 in this thread) are written to using the significant changes made to the awk programming language starting in 1985.
