Need help in a script !

I have a script that found muliple same process running in the background and then kill thems all and re-start a new process.Below the script in k-shell

Code:
#!/bin/ksh
p=`date +"%Y-%m-%d"`
b=1

for i in LookupLoader
do
a=`ps -aef | grep java | grep "$i" | wc -l`

if [ $a -gt $b ]
then
echo "$a instances of $i is running"

for j in `ps -aef | grep java | grep "$i"`
do
PID=`$j | awk '{print $2,$3}'`
kill -9 $PID
done

else
echo "No Nultiple instances"
fi

done

The inner "for loop" is not working , here the reason for "FOR LOOP" is that i want to get the PID ID of process let say "LookupLoader" one by one and then kill them .

But "for loop" is working wrong here. The basic idea is to get the pid id of lookuploader and kill them one by one

Please any new suggestion would be helpfull !

Below the info along with pid for "LookupLoader"
Code:
pipe 2031752 2814188   3 00:46:02  pts/1  0:10 java -D_AppName=LookupLoader com.eMeter.PIPe.cleaner.CleanerLoader /home/pipe/conf/appProperties/LookupLoader.properties

pipe 2543622 2715826   2 00:05:21  pts/1  0:15 java -D_AppName=LookupLoader com.eMeter.PIPe.cleaner.CleanerLoader /home/pipe/conf/appProperties/LookupLoader.properties

Ali,

What is LookupLoader? A program running in the background?

My understanding is that you want to find out multiple instances of the same program running in UNIX and then kill it one by one, right?

If so, then you can do the following. Does that suffice?

Code:

ps -fu <owner> | grep -i "Program_Name" | awk '{print $2}' > /tmp/temp.txt

eg:

ps -fu <owner> | grep -i LookupLoader | awk '{print $2}' > /tmp/temp.txt

for i in `cat /tmp/temp.txt`
do
kill -9 $i
done

HTH,

Regards,

Praveen
