low & high values

on the file Ftp'd from the mainframe ,do we have any UNIX command to replace mainframe low and values to space or null.

i tried using tr and it doesn't work ...

Is this file completely in EBCDIC? If it is, you'll have to worry about translating all the other characters too. Do a man on the dd command and lookup the conv switch.
