Mr Scrutinizer codes have this error using Bash on Debian:

read: usage: read [-ers] [-a array] [-d delim] [-i text] [-n nchars] [-N nchars] [-p prompt] [-t timeout] [-u fd] [name ...]

Mr RudiC codes work so far.
