How to make it simple?

Code:
if [[ `ifconfig -a` != "" ]];then
        echo "ifconfig has output,and the output is "
        ifconfig -a
fi

this would run twice for "ifconfig -a"
# 2
Old 11-13-2013
Code:
ifconfig -a > "output.txt" 2>/dev/null

if [[ $? -eq 0 ]];then
        echo "ifconfig has output,and the output is "
        cat "output.txt"
        rm "output.txt"
fi

Try

Code:
$ /sbin/ifconfig -a >tmp 2>/dev/null ; [[ $? -eq 0 ]] && echo "ifconfig has output,and the output is" && cat tmp && rm -rf tmp

OR
Code:
$ [[ -z "$(/sbin/ifconfig -a >tmp 2>/dev/null)" ]] && echo "ifconfig has output,and the output is" && cat tmp  && rm -rf tmp || echo "No output"

Try:
Code:
ifc=$(ifconfig -a 2>/dev/null)
if [ -n "$ifc" ]; then
  printf "%s\n" "ifconfig has output,and the output is" "$ifc"
fi

or
Code:
if ifc=$(ifconfig -a 2>/dev/null) && [ -n "$ifc" ]; then
  printf "%s\n" "ifconfig has output,and the output is" "$ifc"
fi

or
Code:
if
  ifc=$(ifconfig -a 2>/dev/null)
  [ -n "$ifc" ]
then
  printf "%s\n" "ifconfig has output,and the output is" "$ifc"
fi

---
If your ifconfig has a return value >0 when there is no output then you might be able to use this, but you would have to check your man page:
Code:
if ifc=$(ifconfig -a 2>/dev/null); then
  printf "%s\n" "ifconfig has output,and the output is" "$ifc"
fi
