Help me in getting unique column
how to print first line of each repeated 2 fields only if i got files like :

Code:
USA|Tony|12:25:22:431
USA|John|14:22:42:981
USA|John|08:22:12:349 
France|Adam|14:22:42:981
Italy|Tony|18:22:42:212    
Italy|Tony|04:22:42:212   
Italy|Tony|08:22:42:212

to make output like :

USA|Tony|12:25:22:431
USA|John|14:22:42:981
France|Adam|14:22:42:981
Italy|Tony|18:22:42:212

NOTE! :: they were sorted to get max time up

This awk doesn't work , I've tried

sort -k1,1 -k3,3r  file.txt | sed 's/|//g' | uniq -f3

I ve used sed as uniq doesn't understand
the field except space separated , so can u modify or give me another script

What does not work? Bipinajith's suggestion should work for the sample you provided. What is your OS and version?

Sun Solaris 10 , it replies error in line 1 0f awk

On Solaris use /usr/xpg4/bin/awk rather than awk
