Help with passing argument

Hi,

I have a script that is scheduled with cron and runs every night. The cron part looks like this:

Code:
00 20 * * 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 /usr/local/bin/BACKUP TBTARM HOT DELETE

My issue is with the 3rd parameter. Somewhere in the script, i want to tell the script to delete some files if the 3rd parameter is DELETE and her is what i put together:

Code:
#----------------------------------------------------
function delete_old_backup
#----------------------------------------------------
{
if [[ $3 == DELETE ]]
then
    echo "WILL NOW LIST ALL BACKUP FILES IN RMAN BEFORE DELETING THEM"
    find ${RMAN_DIR} -name "RMAN_${USID}*"  -exec ls -al {} \; | tee -a $WRKLOG
    find ${RMAN_DIR} -name "RMAN_${USID}*"  -exec rm {} \;
else
   echo "this is nodelete"
fi
}

At first, i put a comment in front of the find ${RMAN_DIR} -name "RMAN_${USID}*" -exec rm {} \; part of the script but the script is not even listing the files at all and i had files in the directory. Can someone please help with what is wrong with this script

@bipinajith, i forgot to mention in my earlier post that i tried it with "DELETE". it didnt work

@bipinajith, is it supposed to be = or == . DELETE is already the 3rd argument to be passed. we sometimes change this argument to NODELETE. that is why the if statement is there to verify the 3rd parameter before execution

== will work for bash.

Your comments in the code say that this is a shell function, but you don't show that it actually is a function. If it is a function, we need to see how /usr/local/bin/BACKUP calls delete_old_backup to diagnose your problem.

@don cragun, function delete old backup is called from the Main program and it has been added to the Main Program as one of the functions to be called.

I repeat, please show us the call(s) in the Main Program that invoke the function delete_old_backup and show us the complete definition of the function delete_old_backup.
