If you want to compare Aug to Sep you have to translate month name to number. For example this awk will print all line after the 2012 Jul 04 (you have to complete the associative array with all months):
Code:
awk 'BEGIN {  month["Jun"]="06";month["Jul"]="07";month["Aug"]="08" } {date=$1 month[$2] $3 } date > 20120704' file

TRY THIS
Code:
N=5 #CHANGE THE VALUE YOU WANT
j=1
while [ j -eq 1 ]
do

START=`TZ="GMT+$((24*N))" date +"%Y %b %d"`

m=`awk -v st="$START" '$0 ~ st{p=1;exit}END{if(p==1){print "1"}else{print "0"}}' logfile`

if [ m -eq 1 ]; then

awk -v st="$START" '$0 ~ st{p=1}p' logfile
j=0

else

N=`expr $N - 1`

fi

done
