login as root user
hello all,
if we haven't set a password to root user, how can we login as root user in konsole by using su? is it necessary to set password for root to login as root user?how can we set password to root user?

Just leave the password empty.
then issue the command su - after su ing to root
Code:
#passwd

You will be asked for the current password just press enter and a new one just type it twice .

thanx for your reply...I'v tried su -. But it shows authentication failure when I enter the current password of the user. Can you help me to solve this problem?

su - means you have to enter root's passwd if none then just press enter...
It is very important to set root passwd!!! But be careful with the choice for if you are i trouble you may have to be at the console e.g. with default keyboard layout (US-EN...) ... it becomes quck a nightmare when you have foreign keyboards...

i'v tried just pressing enter.. but it didn't work..i'v used

to set password for root. By using this command any sudoer can change the password of root.. i don't want to give this permission to sudoer.. can anyone help me?

I think we missed the most important in order to understand your concern, what OS are we talking about? ( looks like MacOSX or ubuntu?...)
