Using variables in sed

Hi,

I want to append some data at end of file , so i use following

sed '$a/data=$var' file

But by this method i am not able to substitue value of $var, & if i use " in place of ', then $a, gives me problem.

Any suggestions?

Hope this works,

Code:
# cat  a
this is for testing

# cat  a.sh
#!/usr/bin/sh

var="end of line";
sed "/$/a\data=${var}" /tmp/a

# sh a.sh
this is for testing
data=end of line

Separate the '$' sign and the sed command for the shell, but not for sed:
Code:
sed "$""a\
data=$var"

But i need to use it in csh script.
