Just something to consider. How large are the files you are trying to retsore? Many versions of Tar have problems when you go over 2GB for a aingle file. IRIX has portability issues with files...

The order is indeed chaos. The information is to be ploted out. If the input order is lost then the plot loses meaning.

Here's an easy suggestion which won't tax them.

This only works by groups of the same month, which is what I'm assuming you want to do.
