You can get Solaris for x86, but I have never heard of AIX running on Intel platforms.

depends how "busy" your Oracle DB will be.
Anyways, 2 and 1/2 times the phisical memory it's a good formula, I have never had issues.

Any Ultra machine it's quite good.
Solaris doesn't need that many hardware resources as Windows, I personally run Solaris 9 and Domino 6 on an Ultra...

I'll try that out, but I am not sure if it is possible to assign different quota values based on directories.
It sounds as something based on user and groups.
