Ok, thanks alot. Just that i remember putting just a 1 there for 1 minute and instead it doing it at 1 minute past every hour.

and change the first * to */1?

w - for info on users currently logged on.

last - shows the last few logins, what time date logged on/off

That should echo Machine name and then the hostnames command into the test file every minute shouldnt it?

So the scale is to how many decimal places, -mtime -7 is last 7 days. Whats the rest mean? wc -l is line count right? and you * that by 100 then divide by ll -a which is all the files...

Thanks alot, works a treat. Such a simple command i should have known. The percentage is the percentage that have been accessed, so if i have 20 files in a directory and 10 were accessed thats 50%.

I have looked around on the internet and still i am no wiser as to how to show the number of files in a directory that have been accessed this week and also that as a percentage.

Im using the vmstat command to display the CPU run queue, but i want to put that into a program so is there a way to just display the number under the r?
