in the mandrake control center under security you are given the following options:
"cracker welcom"
"low"
"medium"
"high"
"paranoid"...

well after a possible hack last week that was a pain in the as* i have reinstalled and i am setting up my security settings before i connect to the internet this time...

my boot manager doesn't come up at all because when correcting the problem i had to run mbr in dos which makes the computer go back to loading directly into windows...

whenever i try i get a message that there is no ethernet card detected on my system...

i don't know of anything that would cause this to happen as everything...

i got switched over to cable internet today so i reconfigured my internet connection settings using netcof and it worked right away. so i ended up rebooting to windows and them back to linux twice....

about 2 months ago i installed mandrake linux 8.0 however due to my current internet setup (dial up upsteam, and cable downstream) i was never able to get it configured properly so i gave up untill i...

ok, well i never could get my internet connection setup in linux so now it is just wasting space on my system...

so, how do i get rid of it and the extra partition made during install??

for those who have read my earlier posts i have been trying for about a week and a half to get my internet connection working with no results...

my isp is ex-pressnet (in VA)...one-way cable...

ok well i tried and it didn't work...i have edited all the individual files but how do i get them to run each time i try to connect to the internet (i think that is what is supposed to happen)...i...

i would like to use something that will force me to learn the commands so i really undertand what each one is and how it is...

if i have the option (text/gui) i think that working in a test interface would probably teach me more so i would prefer that, but whatever way you can help me with is appreciated.
