i'm having trouble enabling telnet access to my suse linux machine.

i can ssh to my machine just fine, but when i try to telnet i get a "connection refused" error. how can i fix this?

i need to get rid of lilo's splash screen.

i've heard that you can edit your /etc/lilo.conf and add this line:

<b>append="splash=0"</b>

anyway, i did that and i still have a splash screen. ...

if i set it to think i don't have a color graphics card will it still let me run xwindows?

i don't think you guys understand my problem. i'm using suse linux 7.2 and it comes with a graphic...

changing the run-level to three gets rid of xwindows login and goes back to console login, but there is still a graphic console.

anyone have any ideas?

suse linux comes default installed with a graphic console....is there any way to switch this to a regular black-on-white text-mode console?

any help would be appreciated.

i have windows 2000 on hda. when i was running freebsd on hdb, i installed their boot manager and it worked fine.

today i installed suse linux on hdb in place of freebsd, but the freebsd boot...

1) how do i disable the graphic login in suse linux?

2) how do i disable the graphic boot-up in suse linux?

3) how do i disable the graphic console in suse linux?

i think disabling graphic...

i had the same problem with my ati radeon. did you try this:

XFree86 -configure

? that was the only thing that worked for me....it pretty much automatically detects everything.

would anyone know of a good online tutorial on compiling and installing tarballs? i'm looking for one that assumes that you know very little to nothing about unix.
