I have some boxes using solaris 8 and have s/w running on top. At times these boxes get frozen with no mouse nor keyboard input functioning.

I normally would go and use the kill -9...

I've just downloaded the adobe reader for a solaris 8 box of mine. I try to unzip it as it is is tar.gz format and get a binary error ?

how can I unzip this thing and get the reader going ?

when I referred to ms approach.. it was in the sense that we (representing millions of users) have been so ingrained and bombarded by microsoft desktop apps

I wanted to get people's feedback on experiences with the KDE destop environment. I played with it for a while and was impressed.

I liked the non MS apps and non MS approach to mail. via K-mail...

excellent idea... just came back from a sol 9 course.. I hope to discuss things with others :D

well I think I may have come up with a work around solution:

I do a tar cvf /dev/dat * a samba shared folder. (basically take what's on the sony 90M dat tape and place it on a samba share)

our flavour of hp-ux 10.20 is running underneath another s/w system. So I'd like to send messages to to them when I finish troubleshooting remotely.
