Error Unable to install & configure Sendmail

Hi All

• Regarding installing sendmail pkg in server, I tried to install the pkg but getting the below errors as shown below - any idea on this?
• But I have successfully installed sendmail-cf pkg in the server box
• But that is not sufficient we also need to install sendmail pkg
• Help is taken from this URL to install sendmail http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/l...n/sendmail.htm

you are installing a src.rpm or just .rpm?,..
Code:
csaha@server:~> ls -ltr sen*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 289498 2006-01-26 23:38 sendmail-cf-8.12.8-5.80.1.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 csaha users 1473481 2006-01-26 23:38 sendmail-8.12.8-5.80.1.src.rpm

,

maybe is not the correct rpm you want to install (?)

You'll have to excuse the stupidity of the next few questions I'm about to ask - it's my first post here...

1. Are you supposed to be rebuilding the rpm for installation on that system? If not, why are you installing RPMs by hand rather than using your package manager (up2date, yum, YaST - whatever for your distribution)?

2. Why are you installing sendmail? There are far better (more (easily) configurable, easier managed, more secure) mail servers out there - qmail and postfix come to mind.

Infierno was correct though, you've just installed the source:

Now do:
Code:
# cd /usr/src/redhat/SPECS
# rpmbuild -bb sendmail-whatever.spec
# rpm -Uvh ../RPMS/{ARCH}/sendmail*.rpm
# rpm -qa | grep sendmail

I don't know what distribution you're using, so the path to your SPECS directory may be different but the process should be the same. Replace {ARCH} above with your architecture (i386 from the look of it).

btw - current version of sendmail should be at least 8-13
