Question Can I install Nagios on Linux ?

Can I install Nagios on Linux ?

I want to monotor some Windows and Linux systems through Nagios,
So Can I Install Nagios on LINUX?

Or should I install it on SuseLinux?

I wan to learn more about Nagios , Please guide me properly.

So If I want to practice some basic monitoring stuffs of Nagios, can I do it on Vmware machines buy installing Windows XP on one machine and RHEL 5 on another and monitoring XP machine from RHEL5?

Please guide me,I am new to Nagios world.

Yes. Realize that "Linux" is not Red Hat. Red Hat is a distribution of Linux. You may want to look at hyperic, by the way. I have found it remarkably easier to get running than Nagios, and it takes nagios plugins.

On Suse as root:

zypper in nagios nagios-plugins nagios-www

Firstly you install nagios, I can help you for monitoring.
It is not so difficult to understand.

I can configure nagios but I didn't install before.
Maybe below output can help you. Its shows only two packets on our RH.

# rpm -qa | grep nagios*

# uname -a
Linux GateWay 2.6.18-194.el5 #1 SMP Tue Mar 16 21:52:43 EDT 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
