Check that the telnet lines are active in /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf and that the telnetd rpm is installed.

I can't find any telnet services running. there is no /etc/inetd.conf dir.

Do I have to install telnetd rpm. How can I do that. The linux version I am running is Redhat 5 Update 3.

Sorry my mistake, for Linux you need to look for file: /etc/xinetd.d/telnetd.

To check to see if telnetd is installed run:
Code:
# rpm -q telnetd

If it is installed you will get telnetd followed by a version number in response.
