retrieve file from windows server
I am working with tcl in an unix server. Is it possible to retrieve a file from windows to unix without "ftp"ing. I have tried ftp and only to an dead end

Not a lot of information. Why is the ftp transfer failing?
You say ftp fails, but not whether you are able to administer or configure
the ftpd on the windows side. If the windows server also has tcl installed
you could use the tcllib ftpd or (if a newer version of tcl > 8.4.1x) take a look at transfer.

You could also mail the file to yourself as an attachment I suppose.
