try sed with "tagged regular expressions", like...
try sed with "tagged regular expressions", like this...
sed -e 's/^\(..............\).\(.*\)$/\1\|\2/g' yourfile > newfile
I just tagged the first 14 columns using
^\(..............\)
and...
