Assuming this is your Macbook, you shouldn't put a firmware password on it if you can't remember it. Plus physical access to a laptop tosses all security out the window.
If you can log into the OS, there is a GUI application that is on the original restore disks that shipped with that mac book which would be in the extras which will reset a firmware password with a valid admin password for that computer.
