vi, vim, and gvim are the best

I always prefer the vi editor. On windows, I would always install the gvim package which also includes vim in DOS. I even set my command prompt mode to vi in bash & ksh.

Have any of you ever tried to use Vile? It is an editor that tries to have the finger feel of a Vi based editor, yet beneath the covers there is actually an engine that traces its roots back to Micro Emacs. I first tried it in 1998 when I was about to leave a great UNIX based environment and go out into the world of financial services (where there are plenty of UNIX based back end servers, but predominantly Windows based desktop systems. Vile can run on either UNIX or Windows systems, has the customization features found in Micro Emacs but the look and feel resembling Vi, adn definitely the finger feel of Vi. It is not quite as close to Vi as the console editions of Elvis or Vim, but the finger feel is very close, and it is a fast editor, possibly faster than Vim. Worth a look for those who enjoy experimenting.
