I use VI editor for simple scripting but when it comes to complex manipulation i prefer GEDIT.. comes handy when replacing files etc...

I use vi religiously all the time. I do not get to use graphical terminals at work, even if I got to, I would prefer using shell. vi is installed everywhere by default and it's certainly capable of doing everything one can wish and may be more than that. So voted for vi Smilie

What about comparing 2 files as in emacs and eclipse.. ?

What do you have diff for? UNIX motto says to rely on small programs dedicated for precisely particular things, bind them together to get whatever you want. Smilie

Hello everybody, My question is: how to add /tmp/work at the end of line in vi editor. my file looks like: cp file1 cp file2 cp file3 **** I need to add " /tmp/work" at the end of each line. I tried this :%s/$/" /tmp/work" and this :%s/$/\ /tmp/work\/ but it does not work. (2 Replies)
