NAME
ktrans - language transliterator
SYNOPSIS
ktrans
DESCRIPTION
The ktrans program installs itself between the keyboard and /dev/cons and transliterates typed letter sequences into characters in lan- guages that do not use the Latin character set. The language is selected by typing a control character: ctl-E return to default English mode (no transliteration). ctl-G Japanese hiragana: interpret lower-case letters as a Hepburn representation of hiragana. In this mode, typing ctl-T looks up the last `word' in a hiragana-kanji dictionary and replaces it. Subsequent ctl-T characters cycle through the possibilities. A word is the longest immediately preceding unbroken string of hiragana characters. ctl-K Japanese katakana. ctl-R Russian: interpret letters as Cyrillic; the transliteration is mostly phonetic, with ' for myagkij-znak (), '' for tverdyj-znak () yo for , j for i-kratkaya (). ctl-L Greek.

BUGS
Considerably more sophistication is required to support ideographic languages properly. There is no way to generate the control characters literally. KTRANS(1)
