NAME
glxgears - GLX version of the infamous "gears" GL demo. SYNOPSIS
glxgears [-info] [-display displayname] DESCRIPTION
glxgears is a GLX demo that draws three rotating gears, and prints out framerate information to stdout. Command line options include: -info Print out GL implementation information before running the demo. -display displayname Specify the display to query. ENVIRONMENT

gears - draw interlocking gears, for xscreensaver. SYNOPSIS
gears [-display host:display.screen] [-visual visual] [-window] [-root] [-delay number] [-cycles number] [-planetary] [-wireframe] [-fps] DESCRIPTION
This draws sets of turning, interlocking gears, rotating in three dimensions. OPTIONS
-visual visual Specify which visual to use. Legal values are the name of a visual class, or the id number (decimal or hex) of a specific visual. -window Draw on a newly-created window. This is the default. -root Draw on the root window. -delay number Per-frame delay, in microseconds. Default: 20000 (0.02 seconds.). -cycles number Rotational Speed. 1 - 30. Default: 2. -planetary Draw a planetary gear system, instead of three simple gears. -wireframe Render in wireframe instead of solid. -fps | -no-fps Whether to show a frames-per-second display at the bottom of the screen. ENVIRONMENT

fglrx problems

I am using debian squeeze, and I tried installing the fglrx drivers from the AMD website. My xorg would not start and gdm would hang (10 years ago gdm quit trying after a few times, what happened?) - so I installed the fglrx drivers from apt and removed ATIs drivers.
