SYNOPSIS
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <security/pam_appl.h>
const char *
pam_strerror(const pam_handle_t *pamh, int error_number);
DESCRIPTION
The pam_strerror() function returns a pointer to a string containing a textual description of the error indicated by the error_number argu-

What is the point of this? Whenever I close my shell it appends to the history file without adding this. I have never seen it overwrite my history file.
# When the shell exits, append to the history file instead of overwriting it
