getting error
Hi ,

I am executing this below command which will pick up the files from the directory named files and then after selecting the files on the basis of the modification time it will send the selected files to the output directory in tar format...I am sending the below command ....
Code:
find /home/499633/files -iname "*.txt" -mtime -3| xargs tar -cvzf /home/499633/output/backup.tar

Now the prblm is upon executing this command from command prompt it shows the error .....cowardly refusing to create an empty archieve... Can u please explain the reason for this..!!Smilie

Probably, the find command doesn't output anything.
That means nothing matches the criteria.

Try executing only find command and see if you get the file listing.

find /home/499633/files -iname "*.txt" -mtime -3

find does not have an -iname option that I know of ... did you mean -name ?

It does. for case-insensitive pattern matching.

from man pages..
Code:
       -iname pattern
              Like  -name,  but  the match is case insensitive.  For example, the patterns 'fo*' and 'F??' match the file names 'Foo', 'FOO', 'foo', 'fOo', etc.
              In these patterns, unlike filename expansion by the shell, an initial '.' can be matched by '*'.  That is, find -name *bar  will  match  the  file
              '.foobar'.   Please note that you should quote patterns as a matter of course, otherwise the shell will expand any wildcard characters in them.
