NAME
pam_serialnumber -- Serial Number PAM module
SYNOPSIS
[service-name] function-class control-flag pam_serialnumber [options]
DESCRIPTION
The Serial Number PAM module supports the authentication function class. In terms of the function-class parameter, this is the ``auth'' class. The Serial Number authenticaion module permits authentication to the root user with a password matching the authenticating Mac's hardware serial number. If the serial number can not be read, for whatever reason, authentication with be denied. This authentication module has been designed and tested for Mac OS X Server installation and setup. Any other usage may be a security risk. The following options may be passed to this authenticaion module: legacy Require only the first eight characters of the serial number. serverinstall Only authenticate when booted from a Mac OS X Server Install volume.
