UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Hi,

Tried doing a search on the Unix for dummies but got nadda.

I am trying to do a xgettext on a set of directories and it keeps yelling at me to use the --from-code= attribute... so.... i keep trying but it is hating me.. the man pages dont seem to detailed on this one..

I have been trying

xgettext --from-code=utf8 (and utf8_spanish_ci and just es) -n *.php

I am missing something but just keeps spittin up the same instruction saying it is not ASCII and to use that attribute.

Any help on correct format greatly appreciated.

The iconv -l command lists the names of the supported encodings
