FREELOCALE(3) BSD Library Functions Manual FREELOCALE(3)NAME
freelocale -- Frees a locale created with duplocale(3) or newlocale(3)LIBRARY
Standard C Library (libc, -lc)
SYNOPSIS
#include <xlocale.h>
int
freelocale(locale_t locale);
DESCRIPTION
Frees a locale_t. This relinquishes any resources held exclusively by this locale. Note that locales share reference-counted components, so
a call to this function is not guaranteed to free all of the components.
RETURN VALUES
Returns 0 on success or -1 on error.
SEE ALSO duplocale(3), localeconv(3), newlocale(3), querylocale(3), uselocale(3), xlocale(3)STANDARDS
The freelocale() function differs from IEEE Std 1003.1-2008 (``POSIX.1'') in that its return type is int rather than void.

NAME
freelocale -- free resources allocated for a locale object
SYNOPSIS
#include <locale.h>
void freelocale(locale_t locobj);
DESCRIPTION
The freelocale() function shall cause the resources allocated for a locale object returned by a call to the newlocale() or duplocale()
functions to be released.
The behavior is undefined if the locobj argument is the special locale object LC_GLOBAL_LOCALE or is not a valid locale object handle.
Any use of a locale object that has been freed results in undefined behavior.
RETURN VALUE
None.
ERRORS
None.
The following sections are informative.
EXAMPLES
Freeing Up a Locale Object
The following example shows a code fragment to free a locale object created by newlocale():
#include <locale.h>
...
/* Every locale object allocated with newlocale() should be
* freed using freelocale():
*/
locale_t loc;
/* Get the locale. */
loc = newlocale (LC_CTYPE_MASK | LC_TIME_MASK, "locname", NULL);
/* ... Use the locale object ... */
...
/* Free the locale object resources. */
freelocale (loc);
APPLICATION USAGE
None.
RATIONALE
None.
FUTURE DIRECTIONS
None.

Originally, we only had one shell on unix. When ran a command, the shell would attempt to invoke one of the exec() system calls on it. It the command was an executable, the exec would succeed and the command would run. If the exec() failed, the shell would not give up, instead it... (3 Replies)

I have seen some misinformation regarding Unix file permissions. I will try to set the record straight. Take a look at this example of some output from ls:

Suppose I have a main() function with only one malloc statement allocating say some 1 gb memory. Also say my system has 1 gb of ram.
main()
{
malloc(1gb)

}
The program above exits without freeing the memory.
In this case will the 1 gb of heap memory be returned... (9 Replies)
I see lot of ad-hoc shell scripts in our servers which don't have a shebang at the beginning .
Does this mean that it will run on any shell ?
Is it a good practice to create scripts (even ad-hoc ones) without shebang ? (16 Replies)
