VGSCAN(8) System Manager's Manual VGSCAN(8)NAME
vgscan - scan all disks for volume groups and rebuild caches
SYNOPSIS
vgscan [-d|--debug] [-h|-?|--help] [--ignorelockingfailure] [--mknodes] [-P|--partial] [-v|--verbose]
DESCRIPTION
vgscan scans all SCSI, (E)IDE disks, multiple devices and a bunch of other disk devices in the system looking for LVM physical volumes and
volume groups. Define a filter in lvm.conf(5) to restrict the scan to avoid a CD ROM, for example.
In LVM2, vgscans take place automatically; but you might still need to run one explicitly after changing hardware.
OPTIONS
See lvm(8) for common options.
--mknodes
Also checks the LVM special files in /dev that are needed for active logical volumes and creates any missing ones and removes unused
ones.
--cache
Scan devices for LVM physical volumes and volume groups and instruct the lvmetad daemon to update its cached state accordingly.

Hi,
I'm getting the errors below in the errpt report for a IBM Blade server. I'm guessing there's a problem with one of the disks but don't know how I can confirm this. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Hi, First post. I am not to experienced in the Unix or HP-UX world but I'm learning.
We have some problem with a HP rx4640 server. During boot it states the following:
Checking for LVM volume groups and Activating (if any exist)
Volume group "/dev/vg00" has been successfully changed.

Hi guys,
I'm pulling my hair out over this one. I am trying to set up a virtual server environment. ( I am using VirtualBox, but I think this is irrelevant to this problem.) I have downloaded a pre-packaged Linux virtual disk, with which I have successfully started a virtual instance of a... (4 Replies)
I am about to retire several servers and need to delete the company confidential data from the internal disks under LVM control. Is there a proven and easy way to accomplish this ?
Thanks for all the help in advance. (4 Replies)
Have you ever had a need to know which lvols were on which disks? Maybe you needed to expand an index filesystem and wanted to make sure you did not expand onto a disk with a data filesystem. Here is a script to see how each lvol is laid out on each disk. (For VGs with many PVs it may be easier to... (3 Replies)
I wanted to know how we can combine volumes over 2 physical drives.

Hello
I am using LVM to create volumes.
After creating the volumes using "lvcreate" and then formating them as "ext3".
I mounted these volumes to find around 40 -50GB space wasted.
Any suggestions why?

Help Please!
I picked up a V440 and it has 4 disks. I installed Solaris fine to disk 3, but I cannot see the other disks in Solaris.
I have run probe-scsi-all from OBP and I see the other disks and they have names in devalias AFAIK. It's just in Solaris they do not appear. I have run... (6 Replies)

Hi Guys,
Looking for advice really this time, I have just completed building a server. As it was a fresh build and was just a standard RHEL 6.6 server which would run TSM I just went for partitioning up the disks as I built it.
The disks are 3 500Gb disks in a RAID5 configuration giving just... (5 Replies)
In principle it is possible to create FSes on shared volume groups with cluster methods (also known as C-SPOC), either from the command line or using the respective SMIT menus. In practice, however, many options are missing in the C-SPOC variants. For instance, it is not possible to add a... (6 Replies)
