Perl in HP-UX 11.11

Hi All,

I am trying to run a perl script in HP-UX servers.In 11.23 version it is running fine and giving the following output:

# perl perlsc.pl
HP-UX abcdprd1 B.11.23 U ia64 2568817704 unlimited-user license~Threading and Perl OK

But when I am trying the same script in HP-UX 11.11,it is giving the following error message:

# perl perlsc.pl
HP-UX abcdprd2 B.11.11 U 9000/869 481574382 unlimited-user license~/usr/lib/dld.sl: Unresolved symbol: pthread_attr_init (code) from /opt/local/tivoli/perl

Humm, for one thing the two architectures are completely different - PA-RISC via ia64. Two the OS versions are significantly different - 11.11 v 11.23.

Are the versions of Perl actually the same? Are the versions of the Pthread library the same on both pathforms?

Also the line "qw(c:/System/Perl/lib d:/System/Perl/lib /usr/my/lib/perl5 /usr/my/lib /opt/perl5/lib)" bothers me. Why are paths to C: and D: drives included here?

THe INC bit is an attempt to include libraries. None of them would be found on that HP box as far as I can tell. fpmurphy is right, everything conspires to look completely fishy.

Although the perl executable code if compiled on 11.11 will run on 11.23, as it is binary compatible, but not necessarily compatible working backwards 11.23 -> 11.11. Something is clearly wrong with your perl executable file. The perl script looks equally funny to me as well. including the rather odd path to perl...

That looks like an issue with perl itself (or one of it's compiled modules) rather than your script.
Try running "/opt/local/tivoli/perl -v", I suspect that will fail with the same error.
If it doesn't try making two very simple scripts that use Thread::Queue and threads.

My pick would be that perl or one of the libraries it uses has been copied from a different version of HPUX and isn't compatible.

Hi Dragon,

Thanks for your help in this.I think your suggestion is valid because the Perl and its binaries used in this 11.11 server is same as that of 11.23 HP-UX.So I tried to rebuild the Perl in this server.As a first step I tried to install the binutils 2.15.But unfortunately I got the following errors.
