Newbe Linux user with his first question...

Okay, I have Mandrake Linux 9.1. I'm trying to set up different software sources from the source manager. My problem is, I know where I want the software to come from, but I don't know what to put in the "Relative path to synthesis/hdlist" area. Can someone help me and explain exactly what the synthesis/hdlist is for?

It's the name of file saying which packages are in some directory. Take your first mandrake cd and look into directory with RPM's. You should find such file there.

Ok, so what if I'm trying to set up my home directory as a source for downloads? Or if I'm going to set up one of the mirror sites for updates? What I'm needing to know is where is the hdlist directory/file(?)? That's what I'm really needing to know.

I'm sure that there some script that generates such files. Just try to find it ( google.com, man rpm ).
