UNIX talk

I have the manpage for this utility on my system, but the utility itself is not there.

My friend has the utility, but it does not work, not even on the same machine.

Does anyone remember it? What software package is it related to? Where is it configured?

Talk is supposed to be a chat program, but I haven't ever seen it work (as you said, even on the same machine). There are no configuration files (atleast to my knowledge).

I don't even know why so many vendors package it as default with the distributions. I even have it on my production Solaris boxes, even though nobody would ever be using it.
