Dedicated Server Move

I just moved a dedicated server, which included moving to a new subnet, and new IP address. Now my server is not reconnecting - I've tried ifconfig, altering the etc/hosts file with the new ip address, with no luck.

ifconfig is not persistent, so forget that!

Did you also change netmasks, defaultrouter, ipnodes, etc? (you didn't mention which OS you were using).

I'm running Linux 2.6.21.5

I haven't been able to change the subnet mask, etc. However, I just noticed that my changes in the etc/hosts file didn't take either.

ifconfig: set address & submask until it changes again or the machine power-cycles
/etc/hosts: create a mapping between IP addresses and easy to remember names

Both have nothing to do with setting a permanent IP address, subnet mask or default route.

Which distribution are you using?

I don't have a Slack install ready currently, but information on how to configure the network can be found at the Slackware site
