HPUX model scirpt issue

hi,

I am using HPUX 11.31(Itanium) and HP 5100 printer.

I am using PCL5.nloo model script present in HPUX by default to print to printer.

I am finding issues in printing paper sizes and few other options.

Description of the problem:

When i give a print with option "half" and "Legal" paper, the job is getting printed in Legal paper but the paper size is scaled to A4. The output file of the model script with these options does not have a scaling command.

command executed for viewing output file:

PCL5.nloo 1 1 1 1 "half legal" /Inputfile > /outputfile.

I want to know has anybody used model script and have tried these options and working properly.

I also want to know whether a print method of HP-UX does not have a print command to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance.

A stupid question maybe (you may have good reasons ???...)

Why dont you use the correct model script?
Is your printer a laserjet 5100?
Then here is the modelscript:
http://www.hp.com/pond/modelscripts/net_lj5100.sh.Z

All the best

Wrong printer driver. If you don't have HPPI installed to manage your HP printers, grab the file vbe has and install that on your server.

Thanks for the reply.

I want to use default model script in HPUX for printing.

I am using PCL5.nloo model script to print to both HP and non-HP printers.

While printing I found that few options are not working as expected.
So I would like to know if anybody has used this model script and has faced same issue.

Also I would like to know is there any other solution for solving this problem.(I want to use default model scripts in HPUX, i dont want to download any other scripts).

Please help.

Well...I see the thread you have in the ITRC forums on this issue...can't believe I missed this...
Quote:
PCL5.nloo 1 1 1 1 "half legal" /Inputfile > /outputfile
...if I understand this properly, you execute the PCL5 script on the command line to change the format of a file, then you issue an lp command to print that changed format file...

Correct me if I'm wrong but what you're trying to do is print a file to legal size paper half-duplexed? It can be done using the lp command. But you have to know if the printer will support the options you want to print in...that's the reason you want to use the correct printer drivers...especially for HP printers...the man pages on the printer will tell you what options are supported and can help interpret your commands.

Here are the available options for an HP4200 <net_lj4200>:

Quote:
auto Auto-switch language (PostScript or PCL) based on file
type. Default.

postscript/post, pcl
Print in PostScript or PCL mode.

hpgl2, hpgl2_p Print in HP-GL/2 landscape or portrait mode.

relay Pass data to the printer without adding any commands.

r/raw Print in raw mode. No CR, LF, or FF processing will be
performed.

dpi<#> Set the resolution to the specified dpi, where <#> is
either 3/300, 6/600, 12/1200/12pro, or 12fast/1200fast.
If <#> is not specified, the printer's front panel sets
the default dpi. The 12pro sets true 1200 dpi with
slow speed at 8ppm. The 12/1200/12pro is not supported
on the LaserJet 4200

half/2/2up, quarter/4/4up, 8/8up
Print 2, 4 or 8 pages on one side of paper.

2p, 2l, 4p 4l, 6p, 6l
Print 2, 4, 6, 9 and 16 pages on one side of paper in
portrait or landscape orientation. The paper size
available for this feature are: letter, legal, a4.

pslandscape Print PS files in landscape orientation.

border Print sets a line around each page image to help
visually define the borders of each logical page. This
option is used only in combination with the Nup option
for PS files. The default value is without border.
scale<#> Scales PS documents. The input PS file should
follow the Adobe Structuring Conventions. The values
for scale option are from 15 to 500. The shell should
execute the let command, try in the command line "let"
if the message is "bad argument count" mean the shell
can execute it.

simplex Print single sided. If not specified, the printer's
front panel sets the default to either simplex or
duplex.

vd/duplex/double/d, hd/hduplex, md/mduplex
Print double sided with long-edge binding, short-edge
binding, or manual duplexing. Manual duplexing is
available in HP-UX only for PCL/Text.

legal, letter, A4, A5, B5-JIS, exec/executive
Use the specified media size. These media sizes are
also available: custom, C5/C5env, 16K, JIS-EXEC,
com10/com10env, B5-ISO, DL/DLenv, PostCard/PostCardD,
and monarc. Media sizes 8K, 16K and JIS-EXEC are
available for the LaserJet 4200.

mtype<media> Use the specified media type, where <media> is either
Plain, Preprinted, Letterhead, Transparency,
Prepunched, Labels, Bond, Recycled, Color, CardStock,
Rough, Vellum, User-defined1, User-defined2, User-
defined3, User-defined4, or User-defined5. User-defined
media types must be pre-configured in the printer. A
default fuser temperature is automatically set for the
specified media type. For Transparency, Rough, and
Vellum, the fuser temperature is set to low, high, and
vellum, respectively. For all other media types, the
fuser temperature is set to normal. The fuser
temperature can be changed explicitly by setting the
fuser option. (LaserJet 4200 do not support vellum
printing.)

manual/man, tray1, tray2/upper/ub/ubin, tray3/lower/lb/lbin,
manualenv/manenv
Feed media from the specified tray.
Tray1 is a multi-purpose tray. The option
manualenv/manenv is for manual feeding of envelopes.

btray1, btray2/bupper/ubb, btray3/blower/lbb,
Feed media from the specified tray when printing the
banner page.

simplex Print single sided. If not specified, the printer's
front panel sets the default to either simplex or
duplex.

bin1/topbin, bin2, bin3, ..., bin10

Output pages to specified bin. By default, the bin1
option (face-down) is valid, bin2 is the faceup bin and
bin3 through bin10 are optional external output bins.
The bin3 is the face-up bin if bin2 is not available.
The bin2 option is valid only when mailbox bin is
attached with printer.

rearbin/leftbin
Output pages to bin2 or rearbin when there is no
mailbox is attached. This command should be given only
when the mailbox is not attached with printer.

fuser<mode> Adjust the fuser temperature to print normal,
transparency, rough, or vellum media, where <mode> is
normal, low, high/high1, vellum/high2, or high3. Also
specify the media type when adjusting the fuser
temperature. The specification high3 is available for
the LaserJet 4200.

econo<value> Turn on or off econo/draft mode, where <value> is on or off.

srbb<#> Set the starting page number to recover or print the
specified page.

srb<#> Set the beginning page number for a silent run.

sre<#> Set the ending page number for a silent run.

yb/banner, nb/nobanner
Turn the banner page on or off.

color, gray Set the render mode to color or gray.

quality<mode> Enhance the resolution, where <mode> is light, medium,
or dark. Note that the resolution is not enhanced when
dpi is set to 1200pro.

tondensity<mode>
Change the toner density, where <mode> is light,
medium, or dark. A medium density produces the best
result, where as a light density saves toner.

topaz Transmit only once to print multiple copies. Note that
using this option turns off banner page printing.

collate<value> Turn on or off collate mode where value is on or off.
It produces collated copies (1,2,3.., 1,2,3.., 1,2,3..,
..) if collate is on, otherwise it produces non-
collated copies (1,1,1..,2,2,2..,3,3,3.., ..). This
option is to be given along with the topaz option. This
option alone does not have any effect, but produces
collated copies irrespective of whether collate is on
or off.

The list of options is huge...but as you can see...the options you want would look like this:

Code:
lp -c -d<printerid> -olegal -otray<1,2,3> -oDuplex=2up <filename>

Something like that...I hope this helps you resolve the issue.
