/etc/checklist was the historical name. HP changed this to /etc/fstab during the transistion from HP-UX 9 to HP-UX 10. /etc/checklist is a link provided for compatability but you should ignore /etc/checklist and use /etc/fstab.

HP-UX 9.x/10.x Interoperability Guide: HP 9000 Computers: "The file system table /etc/checklist is now /etc/fstab."
