You could try running something like:
Code:
# fuser -m /dev/cdrom

Which would list all the process that are accessing /dev/cdrom or else confirm that nothing is using it?

tried with "fuser -m /dev/cdrom" it is not giving any results.

It has occurred to me that you may have a line in /etc/fstab that mounts cdroms automatically, perhaps using kudzu, it may be that you have to comment out any cdrom lines in /etc/fstab and reboot before you will be able to remove the cdrom module from the kernel.

the contents on my /etc/fstab file are

/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 /
LABEL=/boot /boot
devpts /dev/pts
tmpfs /dev/shm
proc /proc
sysfs /sys

Okay, no cdrom mounts in there then!
