HBA performance

Hope I'm in the right place. I'm in the process of zoning HBA's to my new library environment. Is there a "rule of thumb" for the number of physical tape drives that you zone to an HBA? I don't want to run the risk of overloading an HBA. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

???
The HBA you are talking about is on your/a server no? does the fiber go directly the library or do you have a director/switch between?

No, you should be fine. Unless you zone 24 drives AND use them at the same time. I generally zone 2 to 4 drives, because our backup software will attempt to use another drive if one is busy.

About 4 years ago I wrote this tool inspired by Rob Urban's collect tool for DEC's Tru64 Unix.
